She is quite much in demand and is a very busy little person--has never had a chance to get homesick or lonesome. She has been going so that she has written few letters and wants me to tell you that she is going to write you early this week. ...... I had a busy time in Philadelphia, going about 200 miles on test runs, and spending the rest of the time in conferences and discussions and doing work on our cars there. Monday evening Sahlmann and I worked all evening in our room. Tuesday evening we declared some time off. We started walking and went down to Independence Hall, where we looked at the Liberty Bell through the glass door, the place being closed. That little group of old colonial buildings stands there in the heart of downtown Philadelphia surrounded by skyscrapers, presenting one of the most vivid and striking contrasts I have ever seen. The contrast is so great that the colonial group hardly looks real, particularly in the dusk of early evening as we saw it, making one feel one is seeing only a vision of the past. We continued on our way and from the past, we proceeded to one of the great monuments of the present, the new suspension bridge across the Delaware, the greatest suspension bridge in the world, a perfect marvel of engineering. The two great towers, unlike Brooklyn Bridge, are made of steel, the most massive steel work I have even seen. Sahlmann and I walked all the way over into New Jersey (Camden) and then took a gas-electric bus back, spending our time trying to figure out how the driver ran the thing. ...... I'm so glad you heard from Doris and Freddie (Thalman). I must write to Doris as I have not as yet answered her letter. Freddie and Gertrude (?) must be engaged, don't you think? ...... Must take this to the P.O. now in "Dodgem" as Willie calls our car.

[[underline]] To Mother, April 2, 1927 [[/underline]]: I completely forgot to tell you I read Dana's story. I feel as you do about it, I think. I don't consider that his actual writing is particularly good but the story was sufficiently good for me to want to finish it and I think it shows promise. If I could write one good enough to be published, I should be quite proud of myself. For some reason, I just can't seem to work up any plots. Once furnished with a plot, I think I might be able to write it up fairly well. ...... And I never did tell you how glad I was to get first hand news of our dear Pedrova (the Barney's cat), the booch! Saw a little pedro at the factory the other day that reminded me of Peter quite a bit. ...... Your tax return is all ready to be sent in. I must wait until Monday, however, to send it as I have used up the last check in my book and will have to wait until Monday to get another one. You can forget about it as I shall send it in Monday. ...... We spend very little on "amusements," but did go to that dance last night, our first as Mr. and Mrs. Craton. We really had a wonderful time, there being lots of GE people there, and many of our friends. We are expecting Bob and Frances any minute now so I will say goodbye and promise to write more tomorrow sometime as I still have more to say.
