[[underlined]] Mesilla to El Paso

Aug 2 [[/underlined]]. Plants are the same all the way down to El Paso, until we reach the bare bluffs where [[red checkmark]][[underlined]] Agave lechuguilla [[/underlined]] and [[red checkmark]] acacia constricta begin. These go farther north along the Mts. but were not seen farther up the river valley.

Great forests of [[red checkmark]][[underlined]] Prosopis pubescens [[/underlined]] cover the flats in places on land occasionally flooded. [[red checkmark]] [[underlined]] Baccharis [[/underlined]] glutinosa holds the regular flood land.

There is much good agricultural land on the flats but little of it in cultivation.

At Messila good drinking water is pumped up from 75 to 100 feet down and on some of the ranches are pumping plants for irrigation.
