Aug. 24. [[/underlined]] Packed up and started north on the North Star Road.
Aneroid read 8100 at camp, 7700 at Fork of Rocky Cr. 8200 on highest ridge of Mesa, 8000 at rim of both [[strikthrough]] s [[strikethrough]] sides of Black R. Canyon, 7200 at bottom of canyon at Diamond Bar Ranch [[image: a diamond on a bar]], and 6800 at Diamond Creek.
It is pretty pure Transiton zone all the way except the hot slopes in out of Rocky Cr. and along the hot slope of Black Canyon. The bottoms of both Black Canyon and Diamond Cr. are mainly Transition, full of [[red underlined]] yellow pines & Populus angustifolia [[/red underlined]] The mesa tops are mainly open, [[red underlined]] yellow pine [[/red underlined]] forest with scattered [[red underlined]] nut pines & checker barked Juniper [[/red underlined]] and on warm slopes [[red underlined]] Quercus arizonica. [[/red underlined]] Grass is generally good but especially so between Black R. & Diamond Cr.
The bottom of Black Canyon is narrow, but flat & rich & gives long narrow meadows of goof hay land. Beautiful groves of [[red underlined]] Populus angustifolia [[/red underlined]] grow along the river and some
