On February 14th, I received the following Valentine from certainly my most adorable girlfriend, "B.C.," and I've kept it in a scrapbook ever since:

On Saturday afternoon, March 31st, while Mother and Rog were taking naps and Willie and Bab were in Louisville, I took my trusty secondhand Remington portable (which I think Elizabeth still has) and drove to the Peninsula in the new Plymouth to try to catch up a bit on a very errant diary. It was gray, misty and pretty bleak but Spring was near nevertheless. I parked along the Bay, which was a cold green running before the gusty wind that rocked the car fitfully.
