from hilarity to a deeply sensitive reverie at the natural beauties we saw constantly. She was a dazzling party girl, loving a good time, the life of every whingding she was in--a regular kid and cut-up at such affairs--and yet she could be just as happy with old people and children, apparently interested in everyone and everything. She didn't seem to have any favorites but rather, with complete impartiality, kindness and thoughtfulness, she charmed just about everybody whom she came in contact with. She was popular with many a married man but her capers were all cut in the presence of the wives. There was no diffidence about her. She never hesitated to express herself frankly about beauty, love, nature--she felt genuinely deep tenderness for fine things and could talk intelligently about it. You felt there was nothing she would do in private that she wouldn't do in public--a straight, clean girl with a healthy mind in a healthy body--never a suggestion of dirt, never a remark with a double meaning. She was sympathetic and unselfish. She was bursting with health and energy. She was a good sport, a fine little athlete, and a beautiful dancer. In fact, she seemed almost to good to be true.
