Jew father, born in Egypt and adopting America, clever, witty, smart, socially minded to an extreme. I suspect his wife is a Jewess too: she looks it. In spite of all these things, I find in my dealings with Felix at the office, I rather like him and admire his quick mind and ability.

When one sees the drinking and gambling at the Kahkwa Club among the younger set, one wonders whether or not it would be advisable to have one's children thrown into that sort of living. I guess it's a matter of the character of the children. There are many high grade people with good backgrounds in that crowd as well as many newly rich, shallow snobs. And so it is everywhere.

Another session on the beach this morning, the children and I going in, Willie & Gapa sitting on the shore. The lake has been perfectly beautiful the past few days. I wish I could find words to describe its clear, brilliant multi-shaded blue stretching out to the paler blue horizon. To see it gives me a peculiar feeling of intense desire to express it someway - draw it, paint it, describe it.

Ruth and Jay Walker stopped in for a few minutes this evening. On their way back from vacation at a big Walker family reunion out in S. Dakota. Got a few good tips from Johnnie on our Yellowstone trip & spent most of the evening planning it. Looks like it would cost about $325.00 gross and $250.00 net, a lot of money in these Roosevelt recessive times but had no vacation to speak of last year and with my $400 bonus this spring, we're just going anyhow & enjoy it.

Transcription Notes:
