Taking the day to do a lot of miscellaneous work about the place principally in preparation for vacation which starts Friday PM. We have about decided to go to Cape Cod. for a real rest. Everyone seems to concur in the thought that it is a wiser choice than Yellowstone. Brandenstein & his whole family hopped off for Yellowstone Friday. Lynch told me Brandy talked to Jahnke about the trip he had laid out and Jahnke (V.P.) said it would take three or four weeks. So Brandy modified it a bit I guess. Am anxious to know how they make out.

Big event of today was "La Traviata" at Chautauqua with Suzanne Fisher, Donald Dickson and Clifford Menz. (Mr. Fisher). It was the best opera performance I've yet seen or heard at Chautauqua and when Dickson was on the stage, he submerged the others with his presence and voice. Already a member of the Metropolitan, he is destined to be one of our greatest baritones, I think. And what a mistake I've made not to have heard "Traviata" before - a beautiful opera all the way through.

Had a big poker game tonight at Kearns' and the host was the big winner, Gouldthorpe the big loser. I lost $1.50 and the Colonel won $1.30. Perk & Jake completed the gang. Three good hands in five card stud ruined me - I was topped three times in succession after thinking the pot was mine.
