The children attended the Kindergarten at the playground this morning & Willie and I played golf on the very respectable little 9 hole course on the place. Lost plenty of balls but had good outing & exercise. Our rising liking for the place got a bad jolt this evening when Bab, after waiting for the ping pong table with another little girl, was shoved out by a couple of 11 year old boys, and when she remonstrated, was given a whack with a ping pong paddle that raised a welt on her for twelve hours afterward. She was broken hearted at the unfairness of it as she always is at this sort of thing. Miss Oliver, the hostess tried to smooth the thing over but as far as we knew the boy didn't get any disciplining. I was so mad I could have up and left then and there. But, we finally calmed down. [[underlined]] Damn [/underlined]]such, impudent, ill bred little brats as this! There out to be a law against them!

We hadn't been swimming until today but Bab finally persuaded us to go in and after we once tried it we were completely sold on the desirability of going every day. There is no beach for the grownups - just a dock and a float about 20 yards from shore in deep water. But the water is warm, clear and clean and it is delightful. This evening we went to a "barn dance" at Orford, N. H., with a number of others and wouldn't have missed it for a lot. The country dances were a scream
