rebelled and socked Normy square in the mouth. Unfortunately Normy had a sore upper lip where Will had hit him earlier with a see-saw and it did hurt pretty badly I guess. I'd have been better pleased if he'd walloped Will a good one instead as he is the basic cause of trouble.

Had the most beautiful day so far, clear as a bell, and after the only really cool night so far - 48° minimum. Used four blankets a piece and were just about right. Willie is almost back to normal. Got involved in a good horseshoe match this morning; Campbell and I (the thin men) vs. Taft and Ketterick (the fat men). They took us two out of three and in the evening we came back and took two out of three from them. So tomorrow we play it off. More swimming this afternoon and now Bab simply swims out to the float unaided without fuss or ceremony.

Heard an interesting remark on the float. "Will" Garwood, the "pest" as Rog says, was out there with his mother. She was trying to make him lie down beside her & having difficulty. Finally she said, "Come Will. This is what your father used to do." His reply - "This is no good; he didn't know anything." We have suspected Will of being sub-normal and I wondered if his father was crazy.

I put the top down on the Ford today and this morning we drove to Thetford Hills, a charming, unspoiled little town up on top of a hill near here. The village green surrounded by church, schoolhouse and lovely old New England houses and gardens, looks much as one imagines it did a hundred and fifty years ago. Mrs. Clendennin told me tonight our car was the subject of much admiration and envy today.
