crowd called him Harold Lloyd; he also answered to "Jake," why, I don't know. One of George's specialities was comic diving, always feet first, but with many variations. He was very nice with the children. One could see that George had not yet felt the cold realities of the world but Bill was getting his first bitter taste.

Gerry Torborg: A dead ringer for Tom Brown of the movies, a Dartmouth undergrad, not as likeable as George Brown but nonetheless an extremely nice boy. Gerry was chiefly famed for casting a spell over ever girl under 25 that appeared at the place. Evenings, when Gerry took his turn at the tending store, he would always have two or three of them in there with him. Gerry was seen chiefly strolling with the girls, acting as lifeguard and boattender, storekeeper, and ornament around the Big Shanty. He was always very ready to play tennis or pitch horseshoes or anything else to be accomodating however, and one couldn't help liking him. He knew the girls liked him and was a bit cocky about it too, but not in an offensive way. As a counsellor, he was a distinct asset to the place from the viewpoint of satisfying the younger girls who seemed to be googy over him. I should say Gerry qualified much better than I for Walter's "playboy" part. Gerry played doubles as my partner the day we took on Mrs. Asche and Rowe and during the match, Gerry kept telling me various things about the game that I knew before he was born - he was like that but a good boy.
