The Shiffletts: An auditor for a big public accounting firm in New York, he spends about 6 months of the year in Detroit on General Motors books. A rather husky, medium height type with glasses and a smooth, studious face, but a good athlete and a corking good bridge player. He and his rather diffident wife, Barbara, spent a great deal of time together, but we had quite a bit of good bridge and they spent an evening at it at our cabin one night. Barbara did considerable riding also and he would golf at Lake Morey. Don't think they have children and guess they haven't been married too long. But again, very high grade, pleasant, interesting and intelligent people.

Finally I induced him to play some tennis; and wild at first, he finally gave me a tough battle, convincing me he was plenty good at one time. He was one of the prime instigators of the dance at the Big Shanty and he certainly proved he could consume ale at the dance. He was another of these men like Taft - always ready to do anything and adept at making any activity a success. His wife was a sweet faced woman who really didn't
