The Melchers: Mrs. Melcher, a dark, rather pretty woman with oversize ankles, was an intimate of the Garwood, Bamford clan. Alone most of the time, her husband and pretty, perky, freckled 15 year old daughter were there for a day or so - the husband from business and the daughter from camp. She was a whiz at bridge which I found to my sorrow the night I got wangled into the game with Mrs. Asche and Willie couldn't get away. Mrs. Melcher rarely spoke to anyone outside her circle and Willie thought her a snob which may well be so, although the night I played bridge she was very pleasant.

Mrs. McLaughlin: A rather attractive woman in the 30's that resembled Maybelle and had a daughter about 7 who was ill for a week and stayed in the cabin, her mother with her most of the time. The child had a cold but the mother didn't want her to give it to the others which was considerate. She also was tied in with Bamford, Garwood & Co. which seemed to brand anyone as a bit snooty and undesirable, perhaps unjustly in many cases.
