great steel fleet snorting by, I had a hell of a poor sleep. Total accomodations came to about $10 including the car and I decided hotels in general are a gyp for an overnight stop. Give me a good cabin at $4 or $5 anytime for a better rest and much greater convenience.

Got away from Utica about 9 AM for a rather uneventful trip home, arriving in Erie about 6 PM. Had lunch at the Pan Tree Inn at Canandaigua, which recalled last summer there when Roger tinkled into a jar as we drove down the main street and overflowed the jar as we frantically tried to shut him off. Had dinner at Lommer's and then to 710 Delaware. The children rushed for the cellar door to see "Happy". Out walked a great, gaunt, homely tiger cat, shocking us all beyond words. How could "Happy" have grown and changed so? The Larsons provided the explanation. Happy had run away about three days after we left and they had secured this cat in an effort to placate the children. Bab cried as though her heart would break but went to sleep promptly, so I believe it will pass quickly. Roger was upset too, but not so much. We all felt somewhat let down on arrival anyhow. The approach to Delaware down 8th St. with its tourist houses and gas stations was not inspiring and I determined then that in the spring we shall move to a better location. This has lost its charm.
