know (they think) what's wrong. Understand they removed a tumor and found he also had cancer of the liver, which they didn't attempt to fix so he probably won't last over a few months. It is tragic; Jim never married, living with his Mother, a sweet old lady, who also doesn't know the truth.
Found our changes in the front door louvers and side door lower additions seemed to do a fair job & shall take thermo readings tomorrow with the boiler running & on Train #376, the tough millionaires' commuter train. We suddenly realized also that we can help cool the boiler end by opening the turbo intake to the boiler cab. So we believe we are on our way out of the woods. But do they get hot in the apparatus cabs on these sweltering summer days! Lying in Grand Central on storage, it is terrific with that mass of transformer at 60 to 70°C and the grids at the other end just stewing. When we came out of the engines and up into Doughty's office where it was 92°F, it seemed balmy. 
Had a couple of Tom Collins in the Commodore bar and then dinner at the Glass Hat in the Belmont Plaza. Bob was all for Greenwich Village after that but I declined, being tired, and not ready for a 4 AM session down there. 
At dinner Bob mentioned a restaurant in Berlin where each table has a telephone and a large number displayed so that, if you spot a good looker at another table, you can call her up and make a proposition. Also, for the less audacious, they have a mailing tube from each table to the head waiter's desk so you can write notes and have them transmitted where desired. Might be convenient at that on certain occasions.
