So Whitey gave Lynch a big recommendation with HLA and once Lynch got a start, he was a good enough politician to paddle his own canoe very satisfactorily from then on. Roy says Lynch is a good engineer - I never had any dealings with him and could never judge. If he really is a good engineer, then with his flair for intra-company politics, he should go places. I sometimes wonder what effect the V.P. will have on his career. Not that I blame him for the flop its been so far, but often people connected with a flop, flop with it, rightly or wrongly.

Had a short session with Jim Smith at the office, then Bredenberg and I went to Van Nest, where we opened up with a bout with Ed. Kelly. Ed was in a good mood, and to my relief, I found that my note to him recently regarding the short in the AC group on 0366, just hit him right and he got a big kick out of it; he showed it to Phil Hatch, who also got a few laughs. So that is a load off my mind. Ed had a tale of woe on 0351-0360; says all GEA621 armatures will have to be rewound on account of broken equalizers - I trust not. The quill bearings on 0364, the test engine, all ran dry, and 0366 is starting to break brushes - so Ed had plenty to grouse about and he was old man pessimism himself - in rare form again. Went over the test with Tex Dowden and got cleaned up about 2 PM. So as Jim Smith hadn't yet appeared, Bredenberg and I beat it for the fourth round of the National Singles Championship at Forest Hills.

It proved to be quite a memorable afternoon and a fairly fitting climax to my twenty odd years of
