were much thrilled when they broke the dead-lock, kicked a field goal and won the game, 3-0. Have always heard a lot about these Erie high school games and this one came up to reports. It was a good game and full of color that would do justice to many a college game. A full stadium, big rooting sections, big corps of cheerleaders, big bands and excellent, a girls drum and bugle corps that was expert.

Made one of our occasional pilgrimages to Lorenzo's at Buffalo today, enjoying the foliage again and the blue, hazy lake, the vineyards, the sky. Had a swell dinner, fine as ever but to our disappointment there was no music today, while we were there at least - none except a radio upstairs and it seemed strange to hear swing and a hill-billy quartet holding forth. Didn't see Lorenzo at all today. If he had been there, I don't think it would have happened. But it is strange how utterly discordant that music was in that place where until today, I have never heard anything but the classics, played on, among other instruments, a $75,000 Stradivarius. Shall have to go up again some evening to recapture the spell - it slipped slightly today in spite of the food. We hesitated long about going because we were afraid Bab would be too figittty [[sic]] - so she signed a pledge to be good and I must say she did a swell job going and coming.

Got a great kick out of hearing today that Syracuse trimmed Cornell yesterday 19-17, making three touchdowns in the last 9 minutes - the most thrilling game in the country this week!
