At the moment, Jake, as the "father" of the small diesel-electric locomotive, is riding high and seems to be coming into his own. Friday he and Rudy were in Philadelphia to give the Phila. office a talk on the new locos., Saturday he phoned Maurice from Hudson, N.Y. where he was scaring up business, Sunday he was in the office most of the day, and today he's in Chicago with George Dean, East Erie prexy, at the Superintendents Convention. From there he invades the South. Jake has a tremendous capacity for work, his greatest asset, which, coupled with plenty of nerve and an executive attitude acquired partly from military training, is getting him places. He is unpopular with the designers and some of the field men but he is getting results and more power to him. I am anxious to have my fling at some real sales work too to see if I can't establish myself also as a salesman. My experience in that line is practically nil so I don't know what I can do but I am confident. Why not? Haven't I plenty of assets to make good? This selling business has always seemed sort of a mysterious affair to me but I know it can't be and when I get a crack at it, I think I can make good.

Got news today of an order for 4 big 3000 volt DC locos for Paulista - just about given away I guess but something to help the shop any how. They are built around the New Haven mechanical and will rate about 4000 HP continuous 8000 HP maximum. They ought to be good if we haven't forgotten all we ever knew about 3000 volts.

Rog had the family slightly upset this PM by going home with Boyd Burt from school and arriving home here about 4 PM not [[strikethrough]] all [[/strikethrough]] at all perturbed.
