the "line" of "industrial" locomotives. Spike has us all plugged up and certainly doesn't show much cooperation - whatever he does is done grudgingly, as much as to say, "you d- fools are just wasting your time again."

Talked to Jim Smith today and for once, we aren't holding the bag. The fire on 0361 was caused by a blower motor duct cover getting down between the main changeover switch and ground. All went well on AC but when they hit the 3rd rail, there was a dead short that melted the main changeover switch and even the grilles on the side of the engine, burned off the main reservoir pipe and rendered the fuse cutters inoperative. The fuse finally blew but too late to stop about $5000 damage and the necessity for calling the Fire Dept. to subdue the inferno.

Had dinner at the Perkinsons tonight and then a movie show of all Perk's pictures and our two colored ones. The Buggren's were there too and a very pleasant couple. He is a lumber salesman covering quite a territory around here. There are both from Minnesota as the name suggests. They have two boys, both 5 1/2, one adopted. Like most of the rest of us, they rent (from Baldwin) and would like a home of their own and don't know what to use for money. They live behind the Perks and aren't Catholic. He is about my height, weighs 190 and makes me think some of Freddie Thalman in looks. Big and jolly, he is good company. She is a pretty, slender, blond typically Scandinavian type - well bred and refined. I fell for both of them almost at once. Perk had some fine indoor shots of the children that inspired me to try some of our two. His record of their children almost put ours to shame.
