Twenty years ago today the War ended.  And today we still feel its effects, realize what a futile, senseless thing it was, settling nothing.  Today we see a world torn with war in Spain and China, just breathing easy again after the Munich pact and the rape of the Czechs, and Hitler starting agitation for Germany's lost colonies while England and France try to figure a way to satisfy him without giving up anything they gained - the Belgium Congo, Portugese possessions, etc.  The terrible persecution of the Jews is resumed in Germany, is gaining impetus in Italy and other Nazi influenced countries.  So what a world we are living in!  We may thank God that in spite of all our supposed troubles here, we [[underlined]] do [[/underlined]] live here in America.

Rudy Krape thought he was out of the woods today on his New York Central problem when Walter Hedley called him and said Andrews had agreed to the metadyne as an experiment only and it would [[underlined]] not [[/underlined]] be used on the Central.  When Maurice heard this he called H.L. told him all the brains in Erie were behind the metadyne 100% (not so) and resold it temporarily.  A conference is now scheduled in Erie Monday with H.L. to settle it.

Rudy told me today that Walter Hedley was slated for the job of assistant to Andrews on diesel-electrics Jan. 1.  That will create a sensation and a very unpleasant one with Maurice, who hates Walter and Walter Maurice.  At present things are in a muddle and they need a good man to lay down the law.  Maybe Walter, who won't have the restraint Andy has with Maurice, will be able to straighten things out and bring order out of chaos.
