build a 4800 HP high speed locomotive to compete with Electro-Motive. It is rather hard to believe but Andy is on the spot. He has sponsored the turbine-electric and must continue to foster it if possible to save his own face and recover the million and a half or so we now have sunk in it. On the other hand, in so doing he risks the ire of Alco, our last hope at present in the diesel field. He's in a tight spot. It's going to be interesting to see what materializes in all this.

Frank Headley in the office today with tales of Baldwin plans on the industrial diesels in competition with us. They have a "line" all worked up, are enthused and are going to battle us tooth and nail with [[circled W]] equipment exclusively. And this manager of diesel sales, Hulligard (?), according to [[strikethrough]] Walter [[/strikethrough]] Frank and Jake is a go-getter who knows every trick in the bag. He's the guy who finessed the New Orleans Public Belt job into the Baldwin bay so beautifully. I began to have qualms on hearing all this and then told myself - "don't worry about him. Know your stuff and then don't be afraid of anyone. And the only way to learn this game is to get out in the field and play it there on the firing line. You'll never learn it at a desk. And remember, before you've worried about reputedly invincible people, tough people, etc. et., and when you met them in action, you found you had as much on the ball as they did and sometimes more. So go to it, know your stuff, and learn to throw every kind of a screwball the other guy has and a few he doesn't have. Be confident. You have the stuff - use it! And don't stand in aw of anybody. If you use [[underlined]] all [[/underlined]] your talent you can [[strikethrough]] like [[/strikethrough]] lick anybody in the game."
