a man who liked to live extremely well, even to the extent of spending about all he had or earned, not providing much for the uncertainties of the future. He figured he would always have his ship, and when that failed him, he was pretty hard put to it. He was married three times, his last two wives being much younger than he. Mother was his daughter by his second marriage and was born when he was 47, they having lost a boy years before she was born. He had a long and certainly very interesting and largely successful life - all but those last years and somehow I suspect they were quite a let-down.

Ainlay of Cummins Engine here today and as I had wanted to see him about "doodle bug" engine maintenance etc., welcomed the chance of talking to him. It so happened that he didn't have certain dope with him but had it at the hotel, so I agreed to stop at the hotel about 6 PM to get it. When Ainlay appeared at the hotel, Jake was with him. We went to Ainlay's room, and all the while he was looking for the information for me, Jake was pestering him to start shooting crap. Ainlay finally found he didn't have the dope with him after all, promised to send it to me. Then Jake launched a crap game and practically forced me into it much against my will as I had never shot crap
