And incidentally, I'll swear I saw Charlie Williams of the Lackawanna get off my train and go into the station; I had no chance to follow him but he looked rather seedy and I wondered why he was up there. I worked as hard as possible on Neil and Roy on the small diesels to pep them up and think I accomplished something. Tom Sawyer is due here tomorrow for the B & M report with me. And Roy and Neil recommend I move to the Manger because the B & M have an interest in it. It doesn't please me particularly but I guess it should be done. Dinner alone at the Parker House at $2.00 (a mistake on my part as I got into the wrong dining room), then went to a movie, back here, a shower, journal and soon going to turn in.

Being around North Station today brought back memories of those summers  long ago when I first knew North Station on my way to Portsmouth and Shoals, the first time 15 years ago last July. And with the memory of those days, I grow sad. It was a time when I was truly young - had all ahead of me, all ahead to make what I would. Have I made it what I should fully? I don't think so. And I can never forget that it was here in Boston that I saw Doris for the last time - here back in 1924 on that day we were on our way back from Shoals after I had nearly broken her heart again up there.
