at last located the general yardmaster, Mr. Stevenson, upstairs in a sooty, residence-like looking building out near the yards. He accomodated us very nicely on the Lawrence work not already being done by an Electro-Motive switcher. From there we proceeded to Lowell where Harrison wanted to contact the enginehouse foreman, and thence back to Boston. It was foggy all day and rained to boot on the way home. But I rather enjoyed the driving, finding Harrison a good companion. The more I'm with him, the more he opens up and has plenty to talk about. Took Aeronautical Engineering at M.I.T. and joined the Army after graduation, hoping to get into the experimental stuff at Dayton. But he found finally you had to have "connections" which he lacked to do that, so finally gave it up but not until he had had about three years in the Flying Corps. with all sorts of flying experiences. After that he had several years surveying all over the country for the Coast Survey. And after that, servicing Alco diesels all over the land. So with all that behind him plus a good upbringing and a good head, he is a very interesting fellow and distinctly a gentleman. Tom doesn't seem to think a great deal of him - that is, nothing especially favorable, but I certainly do. He's okay.
