had been out with the grippe for ten days.  I mentioned my trouble to him and he reassured me a lot by saying, "Well, you've probably caught a cold down in your bowels."  And I begin to think that is the trouble.  I believe I got chilled in Boston in the Manger.  I was cold one night there and got chilled also coming out of a hot shower into a cold bedroom.  I remember shivering.
Mr. Van Ness introduced me to Blake, the Supt. of the Fitchburg Div. who is located in Greenfield, but happened to be around, Brannigan, the Gen'l Yardmaster, and lastly to my surprise, [[underlined]] Miss [[/underlined]] Page, a middle aged, neat little woman in Van Ness' office, who gave me a lot of dope.  I had lunch in a restaurant at the D&H enginehouse, a typical "greasy spoon", but my appetite was coming back.  Yesterday, I couldn't have eaten anything in the place.  Spent the afternoon getting dope on the hump retardes yard, etc.  Got a kick out of seeing a big -4-8-2 freight hog bearing a nameplate on its side painted "LILY PONS", named by some neighboring school children.  I got a good story and felt I had accomplished something.  Also, I felt much better all day.

Went back to Albany on the D&H, had a Scotch & soda before a big dinner in the "Band Box" at the Ten Eyck.  They had a fair dance orchestra in there and I expected to enjoy watching the throng.  Most of the time, there were three people in the dining room including me, and in all two
