the ice at Dunn Blvd.  A car had stopped in the middle of the street to discharge a passenger and when we saw it, stopping was impossible - visibility was maybe 30 ft. at the moment.  It was Basil's new Ford and he broke his bumper and marked a fender, drove the other car forward and it sideswiped a car parked at the curb before stopping.  What a mess, out shoving, talking, etc. in a gale and the mercury at 12° with the snow blowing so hard, the visibility was almost nil.  No one hurt but the cars and those limited to fenders, bumpers and tail lights fortunately.  We hesitated to go to Perk's to the game later but it wasn't so bad.

Walt Scarborough was unusually jovial, Maybelle is back again.  He went to Texas and persuaded her to come home.  He seems to be making a terrific effort to change his whole personality.  The more I see of Walt, the better I like him and wish him more power.

Willie was near the end of her rope today about Bab's cold.  It seems Mother has been at her constantly about it lately until Willie finally came to me about distracted and asked if I wouldn't ask Mother what she suggests doing.  And when Willie comes to me about Mother, it must be pretty bad because she seldom complains.  We decided
