Had a couple of powerful Bacardis at the Collins', mixed by bullet headed Bill and served also by him while Harriett took care of the hors d'oeuvres very sweetly. The gang consisted of the Harris, Scarborough, Reed, Lamborn, Collins and Craton couples. I told Maybelle it was good to have her back (and I meant it) and she sounded sincere when she replied it was good to be back, although the only reason she mentioned was that it was too hot in Texas or too cold for houses sans central heating plants. Barbara went right after the cocktails and looked just a bit woozy for a while. The rest were pretty circumspect. We left about 11 for Kahkwa, and by the time we got our things parked out there, the New Year was upon us, accompanied by a din of horns, noisemakers, showers of colored streamers, yelling, kissing, etc. We spent an hour in the bar, which sounds rather formitable but we had only two drinks so it wasn't so bad. Did some dancing and had "breakfast" at 1:30AM – scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, potato chips, olives, toast, éclairs, etc. We went home at 3:00AM feeling very sober, which was well as the driving was slippery. It was a good party but for us at least, it wasn't as hilarious as I expected. I still favor a new year's eve party at someone's home with a few congenial couples, some
