And then at North Adams, after checking in at the hotel, Bredenberg was responsible for my very nearly getting drunk believe it or not. I went down to the bar for a beer and got talking the weather with the bartender. He remarked he liked it better where he came from- Champlain, N.Y. I told him I knew a man from Champlain, Bredenberg. Sure! He knew Bredenberg remembered him well and described him to me. His name was Jules Monette and his father, Israel, had done a lot work for the Bredenberg family. Jules had milked cows for them. Result: prolonged talk with Jules and five big beers before going to bed.

Finally located Mr Harris the agent in North Adams and we sat down in the inevitable freight house.  Mr. Harris looked lie a sort of ineffectual Dr. Willis Rodney Whitney with a slight case of halitosis.  He didn't know too much about what went on there as he had been there only a bit over a year but I found the place well enough to allow me to get around to all the spots personally and to get a pretty good conviction it is a place where 43 tonner will do a job.
