under 3 or 4 feet of sand in the river bed.

Corcoran introduced me today to another very pleasant B&M gentleman, Mr. Cronin, the chief civil engineer I guess. He fixed me up on profiles. Looked something like Charlie Ives and acted much the same.

I thought my date with Ernie would fall through tonight as he said he didn't feel up to par but about 6 PM, he said suddenly that he wouldn't care to go to the movies but he would enjoy taking in a night club. So we wound up in the Parker House bar for a couple of stiff ones and then sallied forth to the "Latin Quarter," a sort of semi-greasy spoon Ernie picked out, but it wasn't greasy enough to prevent the bill being $6.00 for dinner and one weak drink. The floor show was fair and the entertainers were at the disposal of the guests for drinking parties. Ernie and I sat there after dinner watching the dancing when I opined this was the part I didn't like - being in a place like this and unable to dance. I don't know whether he was just waiting for me to make an opening like that or not, but anyhow, he looked at his watch and said he thought it wasn't too late if I wanted him to get a couple of acquaintances of his, one an ex-cabaret dancer and "the only good looking girl" he knew. I said "go ahead" and by jove, he did get them, two sisters I didn't think he could make it, and I tried to think, I didn't care whether he could or not, but I was rather elated when he came back to the table to report success.
