mountain climber and counting the days until he leaves for his vacation in Mexico this month to climb "Popo" and lesser peaks. We had Welsh rarebit and several highballs after the Old Fashions, talked, listened to the inevitable Charlie McCarthy, and had a very enjoyable evening, the kind I love and certainly needed after my 48 hour retirement in the Parker House. Bill and "the boss" drove me back to the hotel about 10:30 PM and I invited them to dinner Wednesday evening. Bill asked me to go to the New Haven Railroad Club dinner Tuesday evening; I accepted tentatively not knowing what may come up in the line of work.

Had a very fitful sleep last night, the boil bothering some, and my mind a turmoil of diesel locomotive problems. And when the phone rang at 5 AM, I felt not much like arising. But I got to North Station at 5:45, had a bite of breakfast and was en route to Concord, N.H. at 6:00 AM on schedule. The whole day went on perfect schedule. Found Perkins, Supt. of the New Hampshire Div., very cordial and interested but unfortunately, his Laconia-Lakeport job doesn't look so good on account of the road work to Franklin Falls. I promised him I'd study it and let them know what a 43 ton would do. Caught the 10:05 AM for Claremont Jct.,
