carry - about $12,000 a year including office rent, etc. Roy, Neil and Doc Willen are working themselves to the bone to do it. That is one trouble now; they need more help and because of John, they cant even ask for it for fear of giving the situation away. I certainly feel sorry for old John, and also for them.

Waited in my room this morning for Roy to call and tell me what arrangements he had made for my session with Larry Richardson today, and wondering if Larry would get back from Washington, a bit doubtful about it. And when Roy called, I wasn't overly surprised to learn Larry had been delayed and wouldn't be back until tomorrow. So I went on down to the office and who should be there but Walt Scarborough, over to shoot some bus generator and motor trouble. I told him I had a date with Bill Libby & his wife tonight and invited him along if he got back from the "EL" in time. The rest of the day Roy and I killed in the office working up the B&M quotation, and figuring the performance of the small diesel on the various limiting spots. I'm convinced now, the 43 ton will do the work at Holyoke and North Adams.

About 4 PM, Roy proposed we leave and he'd buy me a drink before going to Concord, where he was due tonight for an air-conditioning test. So we dropped in the bar downstairs and imbibed a couple of scotch and sodas and Roy gave me a lot of new and interesting dope on the members of the office there.
