John told me about how he called Walt and told him to get the hell down to Texas and make up with Maybelle after the "tiff." And how Walt got sold out when he couldn't meet a margin call on G.E. several years back. And how he, John, had a date six hours after he arrived in Erie- a Mrs. Robt. Y. Burns whom he met at Baches office here, but some guy blew in from Washington and spoiled it for him. Apparently she's the Ford dealer's wife and according to John, she's separated from him. John in here on his vacation- first one in 12 years. He's going to New York and then Florida, or if he learns in New York he's fired, he may go to Europe. Wild, flighty , absolutely dizzy if I ever met one! He claimed he had had 3 pints today prior to our starting to drink this evening. We had four drinks and when I left, he was bleary eyed and said he was going to bed. He played a good game of ping-pong and showed signs of having been a good tennis player. He has a stiff ankle from an auto accident and walks with a limp. I guess Maybelle doesn't know what to make of him or how to handle him. I never heard such a line since I talked to that blond hostess in the "Gold Coast" in Greenwich Village last year. But I did enjoy it- it was different and interesting but I didn't know how much to believe.
