Wound up a busy week at the office, cleaning up the Industrial Brownhirst locomotive crane job of Jake's, and nearly cleaning up the 0351-60 New Haven proposition for improvement in commutation duty; I was all set to put out a recommendation on weak field starting only per Motor Div. recommendations but Maurice blocked it - says they need higher speed gearing also - the trouble is, Maurice has been preaching high speed gearing for them for a long time and he can't reverse himself gracefully. Now they have [[encircled]] w [/encircled]] overspeed relays on all of them which should preclude chance of much overspeed abuse even with the present gearing. So I have to bring Maurice and the Motor people to grips Monday.

Understand Ruth Walker's condition is very serious from a note Walt Harris had today from Jay himself. Her heart is going bad now from the strain.

Had Walt and Rosalind over this evening for a little bridge and especially to hear the new records. Walt was entranced - he seems to enjoy them as much as Ben. Rosalind is a polite listener but I don't think she really cares a lot for opera music.

Got going on another cartoon today, a bum in a bar car, and am more enthused than ever about the possibilities of getting somewhere
