loser at $4.43, more than I have lost in a poker game in years. But it was a good gang- Perk, Jake, Whitey, Earl Keans, Gouldy, Walt Scarborough, Frank and I - and we had a good time. Perk won $5.30 and Jake lost!

Walt told me his brother must have been drunk when he told me he was #2 man to Allison. He was on his high school team but not with Allison. Also, Allison is a broker rival, having supplanted John where he once worked when Allison married the manager's daughter. That was when John went to Bache, taking according to Walt, a bunch of customers with him. But Walt says not to believe everything John tells you.

Death came last night to Ruth Walker. The news, which came this morning from Rosalind, cast a gloom over the whole day. What a tragic ending to something that had brought such anticipated happiness to Ruth and Jay - the baby. Now, they are both gone and Jay alone. Perhaps he will marry again some day and have the child. But his life can never be again as it would have been if she had lived. The funeral will be here next Monday I think, so I shall miss it, and miss Jay in New York. Good old Jim is staying with Jay there now. Jim has a heart of gold all right- he's a real friend. Ruth was a lovely girl.
