of the Mississippi but Bachelder wont take on a man.

Spent most of the afternoon at Alco and I got the dope on the Alco B&M report - it will be ready March 1st. Saw Jon Saywer, Jim Murphy, Otto Gunderberg, Bruce and Egbert. They have a nice report but their 7 900HP jobs on it, with the best showing, have a net return of only 19% against about 28% for our small jobs.

I understand Jay Walker was in bad shape Saturday but the boys all rallied to him wonderfully and Sunday he was coming back. Jim Smith went to Erie with Jay last night - we passed on the road, and Ruth was with them. Walter says her heart gave out finally and it was really a good thing as her health was so completely undermined, she never could have been normal again.

Spent the evening alone, having dinner at a "Caruso" place, the first time since Lackawanna days in 1930, got a Gigli-De Luca record on 6th Avenue, called Willie and found Rog was much better, dropped Mother a card, went to the Grand Central Theater where I saw a good archery short (interesting after reading Rog "Robin Hood") and went to bed on the "Owl" at 10:15, to sleep in peace knowing "the man" was coming along all right.
