Alco has not "cooperated" with G.E. and was promptly in the doghouse with Rudy for poaching on his private preserves. Just what Jake and Alco had to do with each other I don't know yet. But there are many rumors floating around about a departmental shake-up in which "Whitey" Wilson rises and Maurice falls. Poor old Maurice did look badly yesterday, tired, discouraged and uninterested in things generally, even though he was about to take a transcontinental plane ride, his first time in the air. The department does need something, that's a certainty.

Went to Merriman today and was in the chair one hour and a quarter while he prepared two teeth for inlays. He gave me a jolt of novocaine and what would have been an unbearable experience became about painless; I didn't mind it at all. The new novocaine has no adrenaline and can be used with perfect safety so the day of safe painless dentistry is here. Except for that hateful prick of the needle, there's nothing to it.

This evening Willie went to Book Club and I asked Gus Marx and Perk in to hear some records. We had a nice concert but no one seem to "go" for my great operatic records like Ben and Walt Harris. Nevertheless Gus was quite appreciative and I was glad to have him in because I had been talking about it for years.
