Spent most of the day on my Canadian National dope and shipped Gil Painter a nice story this afternoon that I felt well satisfied with although Henry Guy told me he thought I had done more than necessary on it. All he wanted was "50ยข a pound" according to Henry but I don't agree. I can tell better when I get a reply from Gil but I feel good to have done a job I feel is adequate.

Jake conferred with HL today and came back with the request that HL wanted to know what "we thought the Districts would sell". I thought it a rather unreasonable request myself. If the district men don't know accurately what they expect to sell or rather can reasonably expect to sell, how can we at long range guess it largely out of thin air. Jake's Alco story collapsed because Rudy wouldn't give Jake a word of comment and Jake had nothing apparently of his own to offer.

Had a letter from Uzzell the other day trying to incite me to more writing. I feel inclined occasionally but not enough to plunge into a real campaign and that's what's necessary to really get anywhere with writing, cartooning or anything else of that sort. There are too many other things I want to do more.
