Had a letter from Cartwright this morning saying he might get in at 2:30 PM or 6:20 PM- would wire which from Cleveland today. So I was in  part hope and part fear it would be 2:30 which would have meant an ultra long session. He came on the 6:20 PM Standard which made it a little easier to handle but it was a plenty large evening even so.

I had dinner at home but Ken hadn't had his so we went to the City Club for a couple of Cutty Sarks and then the Den where Ken had a tee-bone steak as of yore and I had a chicken salad  Then I killed an hour driving around the Peninsula so we weren't back at the City Club until about 10 PM. There was a Grocers Convention in town and the City Club was pretty lively. We were there until 2 AM and knew some of the Grocers before we left. A whole bevy of G.E. stenographers came in about 11 PM among them Mary O'Brien, who lingered after the others left and I managed to introduce her to Ken and buy her a drink. Then there was a young accountant named Humphrys from Cleveland at the Grocers Convention, whom we got taking to. And a Uniflow Mfg. Co. salesman who was dazzling all the women with a sheaf of big orders he had got today - commissions in the hundreds of dollars so he claimed. We thought he was bothering
