Mary when she wanted to leave- followed her out- she said she had her own car and wanted to drive home alone- so Humphreys and I went out to see she got away all right. Well, the Uniflow man followed her in his car- she on foot-to the Ellis Club corner, where Mary suddenly hopped into a big sedan with some bird who just pulled up for her- prearranged. Humphreys & I felt a little sappy, and the Uniflow guy told us back at the Club that it was the Postmaster who picked her up. Ken says "You two Sir Galahads!" Humphreys danced with a Mrs. Griffin (per Paul, the bartender) She is very pretty, and grass widow of one of the Griffin Mfg. Co. men. I have seen her haunting the City Club many times- apparently somewhat wild. A jovial, pug nosed, middle aged salesman from Boston spent the evening trying to make her and unsuccessfully. He didn't fail through diffidence. It was quite an evening- a lot of fun and really seemed like old times with Ken. There is a rumor or maybe its more definite than that, that they New Haven is going to buy freight engines in the fall. If so, it will probably mean plenty of work for me on the proposition, and if we get the order, another long session of a year or more. Here's hoping anyhow. Ken says the 0361-0366 are good- no one is much disturbed about the few troubles we have had.
