Erie, Pa. Sunday, May 21, 1939. Took Mother over to inspect the new home today (from the outside) and I did my best to reassure her I could make her downstairs room perfectly safe, but I think she still has some qualms. She is disturbed also because there is no sun room and I shall have to use the secretary for a desk in the living room where she might use business papers. I had a tough time reassuring her about that. All in all, I am sure she is not at all happy about the new arrangements but I feel quite sure actually it will work out satisfactorily. We took a ride this afternoon as Mother had said she wanted to. Bab and Rog had a neck and neck "animal game", Rog winning by a score of 83 to 82 or something that close. Stopped at the creek at Sterrettania and gathered a lot of big flat stones for a sort of "patio" behind the new house that Willie is planning. I think the place is going to be very nice and I only hope we can smooth things out with Mother so she likes it and things are pleasant with her regarding it. Rog developing a slight cold but nothing to bother very much. He is making a great campaign for a "two wheeler" for his birthday Wednesday - told Mother this morning - "If I get it, you're going to have to help pay for it."
