Erie, Pa.
Saturday, May 27, 1939.

The whole family met me this morning at the station and they seemed tickled I could get back for the holidays. Didn't get in until about 10:40 AM Erie time so the morning was about shot. But the children kept me busy playing "Indian ball" and tennis in the driveway. Rog demonstrated riding his new bike very proudly - all fine except he can't get off it very well. And I washed the car and enjoyed home generally. Ann sprained her ankle Thursday night at the Seibenburger Club I guess, and wont be able to work until Monday. We inspected the house and are tickled with it. Looks like June 10th will be made all right as they are starting the interior painting, the woodwork being finished, bathrooms tiled, etc.

This evening Willie and I went to the movies - "Midnight" with Claudette Colbert, Don Ameche, John Barrymore - a very funny picture- and Deanna Durbin in "Three Smart Girls Grow Up" - not so wonderful to me although the kids like it. Deanna is losing her looks as she matures. But her voice is good and she has considerable charm - sang "Last Rose of Summer" beautifully Mother didn't want to go but is going Monday night with us to see "Dark Victory."

Transcription Notes:
I know that "Rog" looks like "Roy" in Craton's scraw, but transcribers by now should know that Craton's kids names are "Barbara" [Babbie; Bab], and Roger [Rog].
