Thomas, we hopped off. Saw Glenn Thompson of New York Air Brake at So. Station and he said he was going to ride the train of the King and Queen June 8 - quite an assignment.  They come into the U.S. at Niagara Falls on that day, I believe.

We stopped at B&M Concord Shops en route to say hello to Ernie Bloss but he wasn't there.  Saw the "Flying Yankee", there for annual overhaul & looked at some of her gears - 350,000 miles and looked about like new.  Neil said the Boston, Revere Beach & Lynn had a [[underlined]] pinion, [[/underlined]] Grade M also, that ran 250000 miles and looked like new.  No need to worry I guess over the industrial locomotive gears.
  Had lunch at Manchester, N.H. where we ran into some G.E. Boston Office men, and then shoved on to Montpelier where we arrived about dinner time. Went thru Barre and saw evidence of all the granite quarries which is a big industry there. Asked for a "single with shower" at the Montpelier Tavern and got just that - no toilet but an after-thought shower in one corner of the bedroom. Had a couple of drinks before dinner, and after dinner at the Tavern, took a walk about town - a very attractive New England town. The gold domed capitol is attractive flood-lighted conservatively. It was a lovely night with near full moon, and it made one wish one could be young and romantic again. I thought of a full
