the hotel with his wife and 21 year old boy and insisted we drive to his camp with him. The upshot was we spent the whole evening with them, returning to his antique furnished home in town later for a long chat over some foaming beakers of ale. We met Priscilla, the attractive maturing 15 year old daughter and heard at length the problem of Parker, the son, who had spent 3 years in college and doesn't know if he's headed right. He is interested in stage lighting and we agreed to see what we might do to get him into our illuminating lab. It was a very pleasant evening and one I certainly am glad we grasped the opportunity to have. Mrs. Abbot (Ruth) was very attractive too, I thought.

Thursday, June 15, '39.
We had a brief session with Abbott this morning at his office, when he told us how to proceed and that if the Brown Co. could save real money in any way, they wanted to know all about it. So our visit developed from an instant rebuff to a promising affair and it was good. Abbott is supposed to be a potential power in the Company after reorganization and we now have two good contacts, he & Sawyer. It was a perfect example of why one should stick to it and see everyone possible. Yesterday afternoon we were tired and rather disinclined to see Abbott. What a mistake we would have made to have passed him up!

We then checked out of the unique Costello Hotel and started for Suncook to see Fowler of the Suncook Valley. Contrasted with yesterday, it was a very lovely one today and although a bit hazy, we took the drive up Mt. Washington en route, 8 miles at an average
