grade of 14%, the summit at 6290 ft. elevation as I recall. I took a full reel of movies of the trip, having brought my camera this time, and the film will serve as the best record I know of the trip. I couldn't begin to describe the magnificent views in all directions range after range, fading away at last in faint bluish haze. We saw the cog railway train arrive and thought of a diesel-electric for it like the Pike's Peak job recently shipped. Their equipment date back to the gay nineties. It was icy cold up there when the wind blew, down around 35°- 40°. I almost froze waiting for the cog road train to "come 'round the mountain."
They were reported skiing on 20 ft. of snow in Tuckerman Ravine near the summit. We had lunch at the Sky Top Club (as I recall the name) and then lit out for Suncook, where we found Fowler was ill with a badly sprained ankle. So we pushed on to Boston, arriving at Roy's apartment about 6 PM. Roy wasn't home, but Marion, the most hospitable person alive, made us comfortable and began a parade of potent Scotch highballs (and she makes 'em [[underlined]] strong). [[/underlined]] Roy finally arrived and we discussed the situation. His leg is better and seems to be coming OK at last. Of course we had to have another drink with Roy and after my 4th, I suddenly felt them hit me hard. For about a half hour, I didn't know if I'd make the grade or not, but I finally did and Marion brought out some food which clinched the victory. We hadn't had anything but a sandwich since breakfast which made me quite unprepared for Marion's famed knockout out drinks. We went over later to see "Rep" and his wife.
