little interest in Bab and Rog considering she had never seen either of them before. I guess she just isn't interested in children, even her own blood's. I think Russell would have "made over" them considerably but not so Peg. She was nice about them but very perfunctory. I was rather disappointed in that to tell the honest truth.

My hastily dismissed surprises about the U.P. should not have been dismissed so hastily. It [[underlined]] was [[/underlined]] the U.P. and she (both units) was back in the shop this morning for extensive changes after, as I get it, having been rejected (temporarily at least) by the U.P. as unreliable and unsatisfactory. Maurice was back and all the rest too. Wayne Lynch told me they had had a very strenuous campaign and I should think a very disheartening one. There was an all day conference in Maurice's office which was jammed. I hope they can find proper solutions this time. A lot of the trouble was due to minute wiring and relay troubles that were rather inexcusable but I believe there are more serious changes required before they get through.

H.D. Church was here today to go over our layout for the 3900 HP, 3 engine loco, using his engine. He surprised me as being a very able gentleman but whether or not his engine is really any good I don't know of course. It is a sweet job to make a locomotive layout with. I've got to talk to HLA about all this and find out just what there is to it before we get in too deep. "Whitey" Wilson and Henry Guy have been appointed Asst. Mgrs. of the Transportation Dept. and everyone
