is trying to guess what is going to happen and where all the bosses are going to settle down when the smoke clears away. One thing is very evident. Whitey's power is on the rise and rapidly and he is going to have a lot to say about how our business is run from now on. One job already established is the assignment of all new propositions involving quotations and shipments which immediately takes some work away from Maurice. The mysteries are [[circled 1]] What happens to Maurice? [[circled 2} What happens to the section heads? [[circled 3]] What changes in policy are going to be made to improve conditions? I think this move is one of the finest things that ever happened to our Dept. I have a lot of faith in Whitey's ability to come through. I think it is a turning point.

Tonight I found all the articles from Flagg's in the garage and I began unpacking some of them. Mother got terribly upset about the whole business and made a very unhappy scene in the garage; I nearly lost control of myself. She cried and screamed so the neighbors probably heard it, and I don't know yet just what the reason for it all was. After a very strenuous day at the office plus a weekend of hard, steady physical labor I'm not used to any more, I was nearly at my rope's end. But it finally passed as these thing's always do pass, except it left me rather bitter for a while. I'm sorry things are like this. They get worse instead of better and I can't seem to do anything about it. It is age, ill health, a poor heart that causes depression, and that strange fear of business and legal things that cause it. I know - a problem.
