singer. Lucille, the whistler - even "Steff," sister of "Diesel" is waiting on table. And, oh yes, the beer drinking waiter is back, the guy who used to dance with Christine - but he didn't make an exhibition tonight unfortunately. It seemed as good or better than ever, with the new soprano, "Miss Lois Hendricks," the high spot. We imbibed about four pitchers of beer and a good time was had by all.

Put in a heavy day of shopping, weeding, bookkeeping, sending address change notices, hair cutting, etc. Took Mother to Chautauqua this evening, starting out with top down and putting it up en route just in time, for we hit a cloudburst over near State Line. I think Chautauqua is going to do Mother good. She is terribly nervous and the peace and diversion and ability to see some people of her own age over there, will help sooth her a lot. I feel sure. I do hope so, for she needs it and badly. I felt rather guilty taking her over and yet I don't know why I should, as I think it is best for her and for us both.

This was a day of work; I never left the premises all day or evening. Unpacked the secretary among other things and when we got it set up in the living room, it makes a piece to really be proud of. We polished it, and I got to work on the tarnished brass, and I think it is going to be as good as the Colonel's clock to excite admiration.
