Another thrill I got today, was playing some of our old Victrola records that I haven't heard for 15 years - the Caruso record sounds remarkably well, and it is amazing how it all comes back! They might have been played yesterday! I didn't dare play them while Mother was here for fear of upsetting her. But what a peculiar thrill it is to play them now!

Really managed to get pretty well cleaned up at the office today and leave tomorrow night for the Maine Central survey. Have my Montpelier report all bound and am taking it with me.
"Whitey" is taking over the helm rapidly and I should say that shortly he will be running the department. "Carl" in a superior position not withstanding. "Rudy" had some choice gossip from New York. It is that H.L. wants to put Maurice back in the Engineering Dept. replacing A.J. Woodward as head of locomotive design. Also the dope is that Waller is retiring very shortly when Whitey takes his job. And perhaps then is where the move that may involve me is concerned. This is only a guess but assuming there was anything to what Eddie Gunn told me in Sch'dy., this looks like a logical move. The future will be interesting. It looks like my biggest opportunity and I don't want to miss it.

This evening, I assisted Roy and Dilly Weaver in starting to build a "shack" behind the garage from the lumber out of the Flay packing cases and some 2 x 4's I bought today at Wilby's. I think I got almost as big
