because my clothes were soaked! It rained late in the afternoon and I had to put the top up on the car which didn't help at all. The two pairs of white pants I sent to the cleaners neither were clean but I wore the cleanest (or least dirty) and when I slammed the door of the trunk on my bags as we were leaving, a shower of dirty water shot all over my legs! It was almost too much but we went ahead and by the time we reached the Club, it had pretty well dried and brushed off fairly well. We had a very nice time with Ros and Walt, and the children seemed to enjoy themselves. Someday, I want to belong to that place. It is lovely out there.

Walt and I had a long talk about the outlook for our business. He feels we must engineer our way over G.M. in the heavy equipment business. Well he may be right but I don't think it is entirely that. At any rate the talk made me realize that there is a field for some damn clear thinking and I want to begin to think more along those lines - the lines of policy, how to get more business, how to meet these pressing problems, how to raise our output from 30% of capacity to 100%. The men who can think out these things successfully and find the answers, is the man who will get somewhere, who will lead. If I am going to be successful in reaching my goal, [[underlined]] I've [[/underlined]] got to do that sort of thinking, and if I do think about it seriously, I feel sure I will arrive at answers that will be valuable. I've been successful before in that sort of thinking and I can be again.
