We called Roy from the Hotel DeWitt and were informed (1) H L Andrews has been made Vice President in charge of the Merchandise Dept. and is being groomed for Swope's job (2) Whitey Wilson has been made Manager of the Transportation Dept. (3) The Transportation Dept. is now under Shreve with Waller as Asst. V.P to Shreve. It was so utterly unexpected, we were nearly bowled over. I personally entertain some doubts as to H.L.A. being groomed for the Presidency but maybe it's so and if so, fine. I can't help thinking of Shreve's remark to Perk at the Commercial Conference in Sch'dy - "We're going to have to do something about that outfit (Transportation Dept.)" Cordinier left the Company to assume the presidency of the Schick Razor Co. and that made the opening for Andy at Bridgeport. Then I think of the U.P. and wonder what that has done to Andy's stock. However, the Merchandize training would seem to point to a grooming job so maybe it is so. If so, I wish HL the best of luck!
