Some of the boys felt rather rocky this morning. I must confess I had a little headache myself. Taft wouldn't even shoot horseshoes, almost unheard of. Winston said he'd shoot a game of singles with me after breakfast although he felt "terrible", and he got a couple of singles after which he allowed maybe he shot better on a "carryover." He complained that he had had a "few highballs" in Woodstock yesterday and "another" at White River and then the ale on top of that and he felt "awful." He was rather pale. Collis wasn't ambitious either but we had a date to play tennis with Earl Graves and Jim Cahill so we struggled up about 10:30 AM to keep it. We got into some doubles with the two Estall fellows from Quebec before our opponents arrived and that upset everything. Graves began a singles match with Pepper, the Jew (but a very fine one apparently) and we wound up by playing three doubles with Estalls, and then Pepper and I played a set against Jim Cahill and Collis - four sets in a hot sun on a hangover! Collis said it made him feel better but it revived my headache.

I didn't go swimming today at all but rowed a boat out to the float to guard Peggy Taft and Bab, the "water rats," while they had a plunging contest. Peggy can jump in feet first off the spring board and not go in above her shoulders! Those two can't seem to get enough of it. They play "Follow the Leader" - in and out, in and out until you'd think they'd be exhausted.

Winston approached Taft and me a couple of times on going over to Lake Morey Inn for a few "pickeruppers" but we managed to slide out of it. Taft says, "I'm not going out on any bender with him!" Instead we retired early and gladly.
